Bass Lake Resorts Spring into the Season

Seasons are what make a year special. Of course, there are divisions based on weather, ecology, and amount of daylight. But there are also seasons based on activities and types of fun you can have. For us in Madera County, one day, in particular, is more special than others. At the end of March each year, two pillars of the Bass Lake Resort community re-open for the season.  This year opening day for The Forks Resort and Miller's Landing Resort is Friday, March 28, 2025!

Less than an hour from Fresno, the shores and crystal-clear waters of Bass Lake will be abuzz yet again. The Forks Resort and Miller's Landing Resort both open on Friday, March 28th. These long-time favorites offer delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner opportunities inside and outside on their patios, each showcasing spectacular views of Bass Lake. The biggest resort on Bass Lake is The Pines Resort  and is open year-round.

For those unaware, Bass Lake is the “star” in the classic John Hughes film “The Great Outdoors” featuring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd. Make a go at your own “great outdoors” experience by renting a cabin. Bass Lake offers numerous rental homes and cabins, with many right on the lakefront with docks. If camping under the stars is more your style, there are several designated camp sites around the lake and the folks at Vista Recreation and help you explore the options and help you get reservations set up (note - there is no dispersed camping at the lake).

For those wanting to get on the water, you can bring your own watercraft or rent a boat at any of the three marinas on the lake;  Bass Lake Boat Rentals (year-round), Miller's Landing Resort or The Forks Resort (the latter two both seasonal).  From Patio boats to Stand-up Paddle-boards, you can find it here.

Situated at an elevation of 3,400’ above sea level, surrounded by majestic pines and tall peaks, this little piece of heaven reminds many who visit this pine-trimmed reservoir of its bigger cousin further north – Lake Tahoe. But one thing makes this body of water vastly different. This little lake with a big alpine feel has surface waters that become blissfully warm in summer, hovering around 75°F/24°C. So, mark the calendar and start planning your trip today!
