Four BIG Days at Bass Lake
Itineraries Four BIG Days at Bass Lake

Welcome to your Bass Lake escape, centrally located within California and a mere half-day drive from most locations in the state. Bass Lake welcomes you to unwind, explore, and indulge in the natural splendor of your surroundings.

Day One – Welcome to Your Bass Lake Escape

Aim to arrive by midday to maximize your getaway. Once you arrive, stretch your legs and start exploring with a hike on the Way of the Mono Trail, a simple one-mile loop offering stunning views from a granite outcrop. Known initially as Crane Valley, this area was named after the Blue Herons, which were mistaken for cranes by early settlers.

Check into your chosen accommodation, from cozy fishing cabins and luxurious homes to RV resorts and tent camping, all designed to fit any budget. For dinner, enjoy hearty meals at Ducey's on the Lake or Ducey's Bar & Grill, where you can dine in with a view or enjoy a lakeside picnic as the sun sets, creating a breathtaking alpenglow.

Later, visit the Marina Bar and Grill at Bass Lake Boat Rentals for some lively outdoor dining on the north side of the lake, where you can enjoy great music and beautiful scenery and possibly spot a bald eagle. End your night with campfire songs, hot cider, and stargazing. The cool temperatures at 3,400 ft elevation are perfect for a restful night's sleep under the stars. Fun fact: the 1989 hit movie The Great Outdoors, starring John Candy and Dan Aykroyd, was filmed right here at Bass Lake!

Way of the Mono Trail is the ideal place to find some peaceful moments. This one-mile loop is in the heart of Bass Lake.

Day Two – It Is Your Vacation

Start your day early by renting a paddleboard and heading to the tranquil Willow Cove. Enjoy the calm waters and the company of ducks and goslings as the sun rises and the wildlife stirs. After your peaceful morning on the lake, treat yourself to a hearty breakfast at The Forks Resort, where the Chicken Fried Steak comes highly recommended.

Next, hike the Willow Creek Trail and stop for a picnic at Angel Falls. Be mindful on this trail as it features swift water and slippery rocks. Remember, there are no facilities here, so pack out everything you bring in, including waste, to keep this natural paradise pristine.

After your outdoor adventure, relax back at your accommodation. Stop by the nearby Pines Market and Deli for snacks, unwind in the sun, or nap in a hammock. For dinner, enjoy the flexibility of choosing your own spot. Have a BBQ by the lake, or try local favorites like Casa Velasco's Mexican cuisine or a Forks Burger from The Forks Restaurant. End your day with delicious eats and treats from Miller's Landing Grill, making new family traditions along the way.

Paddleboarding on Bass Lake

Early morning paddleboard sessions are restorative for the body and mind.

Day Three – YOU ARE ON A BOAT

It's a perfect lake day! Start by exploring the charming shops in Pines Village, where you can find souvenirs, clothing, and delightful lake house decor. Ready for some action? Rent ski boats, wake boats, fishing boats, pontoons, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and more from spots like Miller's Landing Resort, The Forks Resort, or Bass Lake Boat Rentals and Marina. Dive into water sports like tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, and wake surfing for an unforgettable day on the water.

Anchor down or beach it for a swim. Remember to smile, apply sunscreen, and repeat! When hunger strikes, the lake serves as your floating dining room. Grab a takeaway lunch like a famous Marina Burger and enjoy it right on your boat.

Cap off your day with the Bass Lake LIVE concert series at The Pines Resort, catch a dive-in movie at Miller's Landing, or enjoy the nightly live music at the Marina Bar and Grill. Celebrate the best of vacation life here at Bass Lake.

Rent a kayak. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and explore the lake.

Day Four – ENJOY THE GREAT WIDE OPEN

Start your day on the south side of Bass Lake at the retro-metro van dockside at Miller's Landing Resort and Marina, serving up breakfast pastries and coffee, available all day. Breathe in the fresh air and gather supplies for your adventures.

If you're up early, try fishing near the Crane Valley dam or take a serene walk along the lake trails. Keep an eye out for the Bald Eagles and their eaglets nesting in the area. Bass Lake is not only famous for its pristine waters but also for its thrilling mountain bike trails. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned biker, trails like 007 on Old Central Camp Road and the revamped paths on Goat Mountain offer adventures for all skill levels.

Explore the culinary delights in the historic village of North Fork or the town of Oakhurst, just a 10-minute drive away. Pick up local brews from South Gate Brewing Company, wines from Idle Hour Winery, or spirits from Oakhurst Spirits, which are perfect for an evening at your lake house.

Spend your afternoon at one of the many scenic day-use areas around the lake, like Pine Point or Lakeside picnic areas. Build sandcastles at Recreation Point or catch a breathtaking sunset at The Falls Beach. Experience the "Range of Light," as John Muir described, and relax in the expansive, wild beauty of Bass Lake, a perfect place to unwind and connect with loved ones.

Watch for some of the feathered locals on your way to breakfast.
